All our practices will be divided into sections for: individual skills,
team skills, and game play.
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):
-
Circle passing warm-up - 8 (or half) players around large circle
w/ balls, other 8 players behind them. 1-2 pass - inner players
dribble into circle, call to a receiver for 1-2 pass. pass to receiver
who sends ball directly back. wall pass - call for a wall pass.
pass to receiver and move. receiver sends ball back in front
of moving player. hold - call hold. receiver holds ball
while passer runs around receiver who passes back once they've returned into
the circle. mixed. switch after 2 min. Coaching
points: Communication. Crisp passes. Heads up dribbling.
1 v 1 w/ gates - half the players wear pinnies, each player
gets a partner, yellow vs. red, each pair with a ball. a bunch
of cone goals are placed throughout the field. Go - yellow has the ball.
Score by dribbling through a gate, players keep score. Cannot
dribble through the same gate twice. Red may steal the ball and score.
Play 1 min. periods. Keep heads up! Variation 1 - play
yellow vs red with 1 ball, 4 min periods. Player must pass ball through
gate to a teammate to score. Coaching point - after 1st period,
explain that they must work in 3's: 1 ball carrier and 2 others who get open
on either side of a gate.
(finesoccer 19, 20) overlaps, takeovers, checks - split (half)
field in half lengthwise, one center (cone) goal in each rectangle, 3 players
at each end and goalie in the middle. goalie starts pattern by tossing
ball out to one side. overlap pattern - basic weave: 2 passes
to 3 and overlaps, 3 passes to 1 and overlaps, 1 takes ball wide and centers
to posting 2 or 3 who shoot. gk saves and sends ball to other side,
or other side collects wide shot and starts the pattern over. players rotate.
takeovers - 2 dribbles to 3 who dies a takeover, 3 passes to
1 and overlaps, 1 takes ball wide and centers to posting 2 or 3.
checks - 1 and 3 check to or away from 2. 2 passes to open player
and overlaps. cross to other side and two open players post.
All - play 3v0, 3v1 or 3v2 with 1 gk. communicate and mix overlaps,
takeovers and checks to work for a shot.
-
8v8 with Corner Goals. 8 v 8 played on half a field.
Set up 10 yard (or smaller) squares in each corner of the field. These
act as goals. Agoal is scored when the ball is passed into the square and
then out to a teammate. Each team can attack any of the four goals.
var 1) Play with two balls to open game up.
var 2) Allow a goal if player dribbles in and out of square.
var 3) Insist that passing goals require three players.
var 4) Limit players to 2 touches
- 15 min. (or whatever works) 7 vs. 7 game,
2 goal keepers, 2 balls! (or scrimmage with another team)
