Sat 8/24, 9:00A, JCR A
In our first practice will be concentrating on the skills of:
-
Offense
-
dribbling
-
passing
-
trapping
-
shooting
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):
-
Ball Handling
-
Ball Roll - with the bottom of the foot
front and back
side to side
in a small circle-
Tick Tock - pass the ball from the inside of the left foot to the inside
of the right
-
Hat Dance - lightly touch the ball with the bottom of the left foot, then
hop to touch the ball with the bottom of the right foot.
-
Juggling - bounce the ball off your knee as
many times in a row as you can.
-
Square Dance - Everyone dribbles within one
15 yd. square. Keep moving and use all parts of the foot. Try
cut backs, pull backs, and different fakes against imaginary opponents.
Keep your head up to not bump into teammates. Don't lose the ball.
- 1. Dribble to open space - try to stay spread out.
2. Move to open space - tap the ball into an open space, quickly follow and
continue dribbling.
3. Attack!: All players protect their ball while trying to kick others outside
of the square. If a player's ball is kicked out of the square they leave the
square and wait for the round to end.
Name Game - Everyone chooses a partner
and passes back and forth within the square. Move around! Switch
to throw-ins (one partner steps outside the square with the ball.
Give and Go Square - 4 players, each
at the corner of a 15x15 square. Go - Player A passes along the edge
of the square to either C or D, then immediately switches places diagonally
with player B. C or D then pass along the edge of the square to either
A or B, then they immediately switch places diagonally with each other. Start
by walking then speed up the game. Eventually, the pass will have to
be made to a spot before the recipient is even there.
- C B -> C A -> D A -> etc
- A D B D
B C
-
Penalty Shots - three lines at
penalty mark distance. Cones and targets in the goal. Shoot and
retrieve ball. Points: first look at goal, then eye on ball, head down,
contact ball with laces (lower on ball to raise shot), follow through.
-
Quick Shot and Give and Go -
two lines behind the 18 yd line. One coach on one side of penalty
area. (for Give and Go: Player first passes to coach) Coach executes
centering pass to one of the players and player shoots directly from the
pass (no dribbling). Both players must move toward the goal.
Retrieve ball and go to other line. Rotate players to the coach position
so they make the 1-touch pass.
-
Up the side, Center pass, Shoot
- two lines near midfield, cones
diagonally toward corner. From each line: 1st player goes to sideline
and does a throw-in to 2nd player. 2nd player dribbles up the side,
1st player breaks to center. When 2nd player clears the last cone, center
pass to 1st player, who shoots as quickly as possible. Retrieve ball
and go to end of other line. from the pass (no dribbling). Retrieve
ball and go to other line.
- revision a) 3 player - 1 throws-in
to 2 near mid-field while 3 runs down the line. 1 runs to the far post.
2 passes down to 3, then runs toward the near post. 3 cross-passes
to 1 or 2, then shoot.
- b) add a GK, then 1 or 2 can either
shoot or pass.

Corner Kick
- explain corner kick. Half the players are at each corner.
One coach at each end of the
penalty box (closer to the players). Go: each child should try to corner
kick to the coach. After kicking: 1. follow the kick, 2. go to the end
of the other line. If a child's kick doesn't reach the penalty box (or
goes far), coach should adjust position.
-
Bringing
up the ball - on each side of the field have: 2 fullbacks, 2 mids, 1
forwards.
- 1) Pass - inside
D passes to outside D or Mid. outside D or Mid passes up to outside
Mid or F, then breaks upfield to middle. Outside Mid or F carries or
passes.
- 2) Carry -
inside D carries ball to outside then continues up field eventually passing
to outside Mid or F, then breaks upfield to middle.
-
15 min. (or whatever works) 6 vs. 6 game, no goal keeper, no score (or
scrimmage with another team)
Next Time: We will vote on a team name!
A trick
to practice at home... Hold the ball with both hands. Lift your knee,
drop the ball and bounce it off your knee, then catch the ball. Try to do
that ten times in a row. If you can do that, then try to bounce it twice
off of your knee!
Other
home practice ideas:
-
pass back and forth with your Father, Mother, or friend.
Try to shoot and hit a target like a cone or a tree. See how far away you
can be and still hit the target.
Next Practice: Tues. Aug. 27, 6P, JCR A.
