Square Dance - Everyone dribbles within one 15 yd.
square. Keep moving
and use all parts of the foot. Try cut backs, pull backs, and different
fakes against
imaginary opponents. Keep your head up to not bump into teammates.
Don't
lose the ball.
1. Dribble to open space - try to stay spread out.
2. Move to open space - tap the ball into an open space, quickly follow
and
continue dribbling.
3. Attack!: All players protect their ball while trying to kick others
outside of the
square. If a player's ball is kicked out of the square they leave the
square and wait
for the round to end.
Heading the ball - Coach will demonstrate the skill. Then
boys will line up and head back a ball tossed by coach. Finally, try
head juggling. We will only occaisionally use heading as a regular technique
in games, however, it is important to know the correct skill.
(optional: Dribble and Shoot - three lines.
Dribble around ones and then shoot from penalty mark area. Retrieve
ball and go to a different line.)
Defensive principles: When the other team has the ball, everyone on our team is playing defense! You should know where the other team's players are. If a player in your area has the ball, 1) get in the way, 2) be a pest, and 3) try to take the ball away (but without letting them get past you). Attack the ball! No slide tackles! They are dangerous (to the other player, to you, and they don't work).
One on One four lines total, 2 across from each other. 2
lines are offense, 2 are defense. Each child in the defender lines
has a ball.
Go - the defender passes to the offense. Then the offence tries to
dribble past the defense. When O has dribbled to the D cone the playes
go to the end of the other line.
tips: 1) first no instruction.
2) offense, watch the defender's body. Dribble straight at the defender.
When they stab at the ball try to dribble behind them.
3) defense, watch the ball. Don't go for fakes. Try to stay
between the O and your goal. Be a pest.
Get There First - three lines
near sideline, about 1/3 up the field. Go - coach kicks ball towards
the corner. Players 1 (offense) and 2 (defense) race for the ball
and try to "cut off" the other player. Player 3 (offense) breaks to
the center without going off-sides.
If Player 1 gets the ball, try to
pass to center. If Player 2 gets the ball, try to bring it up.
Rules - what not to do; free kicks; off sides; touchlines; out
of bounds; throw-ins; goal kick; corner kick
Keep Away - Two teams of 3 in a 5 yd square. One team does a
throw in and dribbles and passes to keep possession of the ball while the
other team tries to steal. If stolen, try to keep-away. If the ball goes
out of bounds, throw-in and continue.
2-on-1 pass and target shoot, no GK - two lines, with a bunch of
balls by one of the lines.
Go - the first child in each line starts moving toward the goal, one dribbling
the ball. Three passes, and then shoot and try to hit the cone that
is set up in the goal.. This time there will be 1 defensive player
(or the coach) who will try to intercept the pass and kick it past the attacking
players. Both players go to the end of the opposite line.
3-on-1 pass and shoot, with GK - one line at the sideline
with a bunch of balls(throw-ins), two lines facing the goal(forwards), one
line to the side of the goal (GKs), and one line to the side, half-way between
the goal and the forwards (defense). The players are equally distributed
among the lines.
Go - the first child at the sideline does a throw-in to the closer forward.
They then start moving toward the goal dribbling the ball. Work the
ball, and then shoot (remember to choose, and try to hit, a target).
There will be 1 defensive player (from the defense line) who will try to intercept
the pass and kick it past the attacking players, and a Goal Keeper.
Each player shifts to the end of the next line.
15 min. (or whatever works) 7 vs. 7 game, 2 goal keepers, 2 balls! (or
scrimmage with another team)
