In our sixth team practice will be continuing on the skills of:

Passing
Offense
Transition from Midfield to Attacking Third
Game play
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):

Warm Up - Sharks and Minnows -  All players (the minnows) except one (the shark) line up, with ball, on one side of a large square. Go - the minnows must
dribble to the other side of the square while the shark tries to kick away  as many balls as possible. Any minnow whose ball is kicked away becomes a shark.   Note: this drill teaches a bad habit - to stab at the ball... ask players: how can we make it better????

Throws and Traps - Each player with a partner.  First player makes a GOOD throw-in, the second player makes a GOOD trap.  Switch roles.

Speed passing - players in groups of 3.  Players must pass among their group as fast as possible.  Players within a group must stay at least 10 yds apart.  Most passes in 60 sec. wins.  Spread further out and repeat.  Look for good passes and good first touch.  var 1: 2 touch, var 2: 1 touch. var 3: 4 players per group.

Crosses, Timing and Post runs - line of cones near and parallel to the touchline for runs to corner.  One line about 30 yds out near the touchline, each player with a ball.  Player dribbles hard down the line, cuts slightly in and crosses to teammate coming from line at other touchline w/ players curling toward pk spot.
Next:  Two lines about 30 yds out near the touchline, outer line w/ each player with a ball.  Outer player dribbles hard down the line, cuts slightly in and crosses ball, while inner line plays D (each stays on their side of the cones).  Crossed ball is to teammate from line at other touchline w/ players curling toward pk spot.  Var - add D chasing 2nd player and GK.

3-on-1 (2) pass and shoot, with GK - one line at the sideline with a bunch of balls(throw-ins), two lines facing the goal(forwards), one line to the side of the goal (GKs), and one line to the side, half-way between the goal and the forwards (defense).  The players are equally distributed among the lines.
Go - the first child at the sideline does a throw-in to the closer forward. They then start moving toward the goal dribbling the ball.  Work the ball, and then shoot (remember to choose, and try to hit, a target).  There will be 1 defensive player (from the defense line) who will try to intercept the pass and kick it past the attacking players, and a Goal Keeper.  Each player shifts to the end of the next line.

Corner Kicks - on D: GK at near post; D past near 6 yd corner, top of 6 yd box, and far post; Mids on kicker and at PK spot; F past 18.  on O: F: 1 kick, 1 near 6 yd, 1 mid 6 yd; Mids: 1 plays short pass, 1 at PK; D: at least one past midfield.
and (if time) Goal Kicks - 2 D in the box, 1 person in goal, mids in receiving position, forwards upfield

[next time - Bread & Butter 4v4v4]

Core Drill with wide sides - split players into 2 teams with 2 extra players.  Create a narrow zone by each touchline.  One of the extra players roams each of the outside zones.  Create rectangular zones near midfield, one near each touchline.  Play a regular game in the main center zone except: 1. the outside zone players play for the offensive team, 2. no other player can enter the outside zones, 3. the ball must be played to one of the outside zones on each attack before a goal can be scored.  D scores by landing a pass to D teammate in the retangular zone.
Tips: Encourage teams to let the outside player carry the ball and then attack from the wings.
var 1) give and go - when a pass  goes to the outside player, the passer must execute a give and go with the outside player
var 2) 3 touch - 3 different players from a team must touch the ball before shooting
var 3) 1 defensive player can enter the outside zone only when the ball is in there
var 4) 1 or 2 touch - all balls played in the main zone must be 1 or 2 touch.
