In our fourth team practice will focus on the skills of:

Passing
Attacking third
Game play
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):

WU - Toss and Control - Players move around the space freely, tossing their  own ball in the air and trying to control it before it lands. Players  dribble around controlling, then repeat the activity.  Coaching Points:  Have player's body touch ball before it first hits the ground.  Have players control first touch with different body parts: foot, head, thigh, etc.  Have players flick ball into hands before the toss, don't allow them to pick  the ball off the ground with their hands.  Watch for height. Encourage different heights.  Have players fake before their first touch, fake one way to first touch in  the opposite direction.

shooting technique - similar to passing.  plant foot placed next to ball, toes pointing in direction of shot.  can shoot with instep, outside of foot, or laces.  strike the cetner of the ball for low shot, below center to lift.  shooting leg:  ankle and knee both bent and locked.  power generates from hips.  eyes on ball.  instep: toes up, heel down - hit closer to ankle for low shot, closer to toes to lift.  laces: toes down, knee over ball, drive through ball.

Receive and shoot - Goalie in goal. Players divided into two groups.  One group with a ball each stands at right-hand of goal, on goal line. Other group stands in front of goal, 20 yards away. Player A at front of goal line passes toward player B at front of other line. B runs in and strikes the ball at goal. B retrieves shot and moves to back of line at goal. A moves to end of line facing goal. Continue for 5 shots for each player.  Variations:
1 or 2 touch.  Tap to left or right.

(straight shot) 4 Corners - Goalie in goal. Players divided into four groups.  One group on each side of the goal, on the goal line, with balls ready to pass. Other two groups 20 yds out from the first 2, facing goal (groups are on the corners of a large rectangle.  First player at front of goal line groups passes to player diagonally opposite them and runs to end of shooting line.  Receivers run in and strike the ball at goal. Retrieve shot and moves to back of line at goal.  Continue for 5 shots for each player.  Variations: 1 or 2 touch.  Tap to left or right.

(shot off a cross) Quick Shot and Give and Go - two lines behind the 18 yd line.  One coach on each side of penalty area.  (for Give and Go: Player first  passes to coach)  Player calls for the ball, coach executes centering pass and player shoots directly  from the pass (no dribbling).  Retrieve ball and go to other line. Rotate players to the coach position so they make the 1-touch pass.  var: 2 lines, 1 with ball.  player pass to coach and 1st player from both lines curl to near and far post.  coach crosses and either player shoots.  var 2: add trailing defender.

Crosses, Timing and Post runs - 1. One line about 30 yds out near the touchline, each player with a ball, coach at penalty spot.  Player dribbles hard down the line, cuts slightly in and crosses to coach.  Good cross - coach passes back to end of line, bad cross - player chases and returns to line.  2. Add a line at other touchline w/ players curling toward pk spot.  3. Add near post run line outside of curl line and far post run line inside of curl line.  Var - add trailing D chasing first player w/ ball.  Var 2 - also add D in the box and GK.

3-on-1 (2) pass and shoot, with GK - one line at the sideline with a bunch of balls(throw-ins), two lines facing the goal(forwards), one line to the side of the goal (GKs), and one line to the side, half-way between the goal and the forwards (defense).  The players are equally distributed among the lines.
Go - the first player at the sideline does a throw-in to the closer forward (throw-in play... check to ball and move down the line). They then start moving toward the goal dribbling the ball.  Work the ball, and then shoot (remember to choose, and try to hit, a target).  There will be 1 defensive player (from the defense line) who will try to intercept the pass and kick it past the attacking players, and a Goal Keeper.  Each player shifts to the end of the next line.

Corner Kicks - on D: GK at near post; D past near 6 yd corner, top of 6 yd box, and far post; Mids on kicker and at PK spot; F past 18.  on O: F: 1 kick, 1 near 6 yd, 1 mid 6 yd; Mids: 1 plays short pass, 1 at PK; D: at least one past midfield.

Core Drill with wide sides and half-court support - split players into 2 teams with 2 extra players.  Create a line near mid-field and a narrow zone by each touchline.  One of the extra players roams each of the outside zones.  A coach playes outside the top line.  Play a regular game in the main center zone except: 1. the outside and top zone players play for both (offensive) teams, 2. no other player can enter the outside or top zones, 3. A team, after winning possession, must make at least one pass to the
support player before attacking the goal. 4. the ball must be played to one of the outside zones on each attack before a goal can be scored.
Tips: Encourage teams to let the outside player carry the ball and then attack from the wings.
var 1) give and go - when a pass  goes to the outside player, the passer must execute a give and go with the outside player
var 2) 3 touch - 3 different players from a team must touch the ball before shooting
var 3) 1 defensive player can enter the outside zone only when the ball is in there
var 4) 1 or 2 touch - all balls played in the main zone must be 1 or 2 touch

Full Speed shot - all players at midfield, 1 GK, cone at around 12 yds.  1 player dribbles toward goal to try to score while 2nd player pursues.  Shot must be taken by 12 yd mark.
