Tues Sep 13, 6P, PH
In our third practice will be continuing on the skills of:

dribbling
passing
Offsides
Midfield (middle third) play
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):

WU - Juggling - bounce the ball off your foot or knee as many times in a row as you can.  Try to catch the ball on the flat surface and "toss" it up.  Elevator - toss or bounce the ball in the air, lift leg, flex foot, and catch/guide the ball back to the ground.  Flip/Lift - wedge foot slightly under the ball and toss it up over an imaginary opponent.  Run to follow the ball.

Dribble and Cut - 2 lines - line 1 - staggered cones, dribble at cone, cut sideways (in), then up to next cone, cut sideways, etc.  Line 2 - dribble, then cut across body with inside of foot and push with outside of other foot.  Continue, switching feet.  lines go up one line and down the other.

1-2 and Wall passing - players in pairs.  Demonstrate 1-2 and Wall (give and go) pass.  Open player calls the play.  Must be 2-touch, or preferrably, 1-touch,  accurate pass.  Move around open area practicing these passes
2v1 - players in groups of 3 practicing 1-2 and wall passes.  D shadows ball carrier with no pressure and slowly follows pass.  Open player must call the play.  Passes must be 2 or 1-touch and accurate.  Rotate roles.  Slowly increase D pressure.
3v1 - players in groups of 4.  Reminder of rule of 3 - look for 2 supporting teammates.  Most open teammate calls the play (i.e. player who can cleanly receive the ball).

Review Good Space/Bad Space and Rule of 3 -
1. Make bad space into good space
2. ONE  of our players should always be on the ball
3. when you have the ball look for your 2 supporting teammates
4. don't pass right to your teammate... pass to the open space where they are going
(may need to show on whiteboard)

Midfield (middle 3rd) - Defensive 3rd is about safety and starting the attack, Middle 3rd is about possession and taking some chances to get "numbers up" or a run.
key points -1.  possess the ball
2. look for opportunity for a "through ball" (pass between, around or over D into space so we can get it but not the other team)
3. drive ball to outside when available (usually)
4. when under pressure pass forward or back at angles
5. work ball out-in-out or in-out-in or switch fields

Timing Runs - used to advance the ball and stay onsides (beat offsides) - 4 players, 1 with ball, widthwise line of cones to represent D.  Players fake (can check to ball) and run at D line.  Players communicate to time the pass so that 1st player passes just as 1 or more players are even/crossing the line of D.  Rotate.  var - add 1 or 2 D players at line.

4v4 - 3 groups of 4 with different pinnies (extras as needed).  Rectangular widthwise section of field with 3 goals on each side.  Can score either by completing 4 consecutive passes or 1 through pass to a teammate (with no offsides).  Play 2 min, then rotate teams (1 team always rests).

Rules - what not to do; free kicks; off sides; touchlines; out  of  bounds; throw-ins; goal kick; corner kick
watch the pushing and stay on your feet!

4v4v4 - play on full half of field.  1 keeper.  Must get 3 consecutive passes before a shot is allowed.  No shots in the goal box.

shots on goal

PKs

talk about Kickoffs and Throw-Ins strategy.  Kickoffs - quick, short pass to teammate.  Pass back to Mid, or pass to streaking forward are good tactics.  Must support and move up.  Key is possession.  Throw-Ins - must be moving, look for pass down the line, point to open space-check to ball-sprint to open space.
