Passing by numbers - Everyone inside the square with one
ball. Each player gets a unique number 1... While moving around
the ball must be passed from player 1 to 2 to 3, etc. Communication!
After one ball is mastered, add a second. Add D.
Review Good Space/Bad Space and Rule of 3 -
1. Make bad space into good space
2. ONE of our players should always be on the
ball
3. when you have the ball look for your 2 supporting teammates
4. don't pass right to your teammate... pass to the open space where
they are going
(may need to show on whiteboard)
(optional) Throw in game - groups of 3. 1 player
throws in to one of their open teammates with coach defending. Then
add 1 extra defender. Finally play 3v3.
Hints: 1. give and go 2. pass and run to split the other 2 teammates
Defensive principles: When the other team has the ball, everyone on our team is playing defense! You should know where the other team's players are. If an opposing player in your area has the ball, 1) get in the way, 2) be a pest, and 3) never give up. We do not want the other team to be able to run (gain speed) with the ball.
Techniques - stance - low, knees bent, weight even, side
on to attacker; shepherd opponent to the outside
Slow the opponent down - they will give up the ball
Tackling - (last choice) wait for opponent to separate from the ball (last
defender never tackles), don't tackle without a 2nd defender
If chasing or running along side opponent with ball - wait for opponent
to separate from ball; step between opponent and ball
basic 1v1 -everyone get a partner, one ball per pair of
players. player 1 passes to player 2 who dribbles while player 1 plays
defense. Go slowly! Allow the D player to practice slowing down
and containing the attacking player (be a good partner). After 30-45
seconds, switch.
1v1 with gates - set up randomly placed cone gates around
field. Everyone get a partner, one on O and one on D. O tries
to driblle through as many gates as possible in 30 or 60 seconds; D tries
to prevent by getting in the way and being a pest.
Team D - rule of 3 for D: pressure, support, balance
1) closest player to the ball applies pressues (immediately!)...
just slow them down (make them look down)
2) next closest player plays the escape route and passing lane
3) third player moves toward center so we are pressuring the
ball side of the field, but also keep our "shape" so we're able to mark
other players
Basically, we want to push the ball near the sideline and keep it
there. Forwards and up mids must make sure that the only way the
other team can come down the field is on the sidelines.
1st/2nd Defender -1 line of attackers near midfield, 1 line
of defenders near goal, each with a ball, 1 keeper in goal. 1st defender
passes to, and then immediately runs out to defend, the 1st attacker who
dribbles toward goal to score. After 3 seconds, the next defender in
line joins in as a 2nd defender. (cover) Play stops when attacker is
contained or attacker shoots or ball is taken away.
var 1 - move 2nd defender line to midfield. 2nd defender starts when
attacker receives ball, but cannot directly defend until he reaches the
2nd defender position
var 2 - add a 2nd attacker line at midfield. 2nd attacker and 2nd
defender start at the same time, but 2nd defender must play cover, not mark.
Core Drill - 1/3 field, regular goal, 2 flagged side goals near
midfield
15 min. (or whatever works) 5v5 game, 2 goal keepers (or scrimmage
with another team)
shots on goal
