The structure of the practice will be (approx.):
Square Dance - Everyone dribbles within one 15 yd. square.
Keep moving
and use all parts of the foot. Try cut backs, pull backs, and
different fakes against
imaginary opponents. Keep your head up to not bump into teammates.
Don't
lose the ball.
1. Dribble to open space - try to stay spread out.
2. Move to open space - tap the ball into an open space, quickly follow
and
continue dribbling.
3. Attack!: All players protect their ball while trying to kick others
outside of the
square. If a player's ball is kicked out of the square they leave the
square and wait
for the round to end.
Pass
drill - two lines, about 5 yards apart, each person has a partner.
Pass the ball to your partner's foot, back and forth, concentrating on
accuracy. After a few passes, take one step back. After a few
rounds, switch to throw-ins (bring ball behind head, keep both feet on
ground). Can rotate lines and switch back to passes. Continue
to about 15 yards.
Corner Kick - explain corner kick. Half the players are at
each corner. One
coach at each end of the penalty box (closer to the players).
Go: each child
should try to corner kick to the coach. After kicking: 1. follow
the kick, 2. go to
the end of the other line. If a child's kick doesn't reach the
penalty box (or goes
far), coach should adjust position.
Goal
Kick - explain goal kick. Half the players are at each side of
the goal
box. One coach on each side, outside the penalty area and towards
the touchline.
Go: each child should try to goal kick to the coach. After kicking:
1. follow the
kick, 2. go to the end of the other line. If a child's kick doesn't
clear the penalty
box, coach should adjust position.
A trick to practice at home... Hold the ball with both hands. Lift your knee, drop the ball and bounce it off your knee, then catch the ball. Try to do that ten times in a row. If you can do that, then try to bounce it twice off of your knee!
