In our third practice will be continuing on the skills of:

touch
ball control
dribbling
receiving
passing
positions
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):
20 min. warm up and individual skills

Three Person Drill - we will set up in groups of three.  Two people will be at one cone and one at another.  1,2..........3

GO - 2 passes the ball to 3 then runs behind 3.  3 passes the ball to 1 and runs behind 1.  1 passes the ball to 2 and runs behind 2.  Continue.

First Touch drill - two lines, no one has a ball.  The first two players from each line come forward and stand about 15 feet apart from each other.  The coach will be about 15 feet away with the ball, facing one of the players.  Coach will pass the ball to one of the players and begin advancing (slowly)  on the player.  The player must receive the ball, stay in place and control the ball for 7 seconds, then pass it to the other player.  Then both players go to the end of the opposite line.

One on One - four lines total, 2 across from each other.  2 lines are offense, 2 are defense.  Each child in the defender lines has a ball.
Go - the defender passes to the offense.  Then the offence tries to dribble past the defense.  When O has dribbled to the D cone the playes go to the end of the other line.
tips: 1) reminders from last time.
2) offense, watch the defender's body.  Dribble straight at the defender.  When they stab at the ball try to dribble behind them.
3) defense, watch the ball.  Don't go for fakes.  Try to stay between the O and your goal.  Be a pest.

25 min. rules and positions

what not to do; free kicks; off sides; touchlines; out of bounds; throw-ins; goal kick; corner kick
we will briefly cover the positions of Forward, Midfield, Defense, Sweeper, and Goal Keeper.

  Goal Keeping
Drill 1 - each child will stand opposite a partner, with one ball for each pair of players.  The first player will roll the ball to the second, and that player will practice scooping the ball and bringing it into the body.  Then player 2 will roll the ball to player 1.

Drill 2 - same as drill one, except each player will be on their knees and we will practice diving to save the ball using a pendulum roll.  The key is to roll on the side of the body on the rib cage, and not on the front or the back.  The arm closest to the ground should be extended so the player doesn't land on the elbow.
15 min.  passing, receiving, and running drills
2-on-1 pass and shoot, with GK - two lines facing the goal(wings), with a bunch of balls by one of the lines, one line to the side of the goal (GKs), and one line to the side, half-way between the goal and the wings (defense).  The players are equally distributed among the lines.
Go - the first child in each wing line starts moving toward the goal, one dribbling the ball.  Work the ball, and then shoot.  There will be 1 defensive player (from the defense line) who will try to intercept the pass and kick it past the attacking players and a Goal Keeper.  Each player shifts to the end of the next line.
15 min. (or whatever works) 8 vs. 8 game, goal keeper (or scrimmage with another team)
   Our next practice, Thurs. 9/2, 6PM, VMS2.  Our first game, Sat. 9/4, 10:15AM, VMS2.
