Wednesday 5/19, 6P, Hayes Field #2
In our second practice will be continue with the skills of:

touch
ball control
dribbling
receiving
passing
The structure of the practice will be (approx.):
We will talk a bit about the scrimmage from last practice.  It went very well, but I want the boys to concentrate on not bunching up by the ball.  We will also need to practice getting back on defence.
Ball Handling
Ball Roll - with the bottom of the foot

front and back
side to side
in a small circle
Tick Tock - pass the ball from the inside of the left foot to the inside of the right
Hat Dance - lightly touch the ball with the bottom of the left foot, then hop to touch the ball with the bottom of the right foot.
Name Game - each player will pick a partner.  We will make two lines so that each person is standing opposite their partner.  Ask your partner their name.  Then call out their name and pass the ball to them.  The partner will, control the ball, call out the first person's name, and pass the ball back.  Repeat.  After a few passes, one line will shift to the right, so that each person has a new partner.  After a few rounds of this we will switch to 2-hand, over-head throws.

Weave 1 - We will make two lines, each lined up behind a column of 6 cones.  Each line will have one ball.
Go - the first child in each line dribbles the ball, weaving around the cones.  At the end, they turn around and come back.  We can do this as a relay race.

Running Passing Drill - Two children from each line will get ready to go using one ball, one stands to the left of the line of cones, and one to the right.
GO - the children will jog slowly along the line, passing the ball back and forth to each other.  When they reach the end, turn around and come back.  As you feel more comfortable, the speed can be slowly increased.

Run And Shoot 1 - We will make two lines, each in line with, but a bit downfield of, the corners of the penalty area.  Each person in line 1 has a ball.
GO - first child in line 1 starts to dribble the ball as the first child in line 2 moves toward the goal.  Child 1 passes to child 2, who controls the ball and shoots on goal.  Player 1 goes to the end of line 2.  Player 2 retrieves the ball and goes to the end of line 1.  We will need some parental help in retrieving balls during this drill.

Game review - I would like to take a few minutes to talk about the positions on a soccer team and a couple of rules.  We will review: the positions, how to start a game, hand ball, sportsmanship/roughness, and I'll try to explain offsides!

6 vs. 6 game, no score (or scrimmige with another team)
Our next practice will be Tues. 5/25 at 7:15P on Hayes field #2.
