Mar. 13, 8P, Hayes arena We will be working on the skills of: Juggling and Proper Striking of the ball **Intro - this is our first practice - U12C3 - some new some returning players - Each player introduce himself - name, grade, school, best movie they saw lately **Equipment - be sure that every player has: light colored shirt, shorts/sweats, shin guards, soccer socks, cleats/indoor shoes/sneakers (TIED!), ball, water **Take off your shoes, socks and shinguards!!!! **Striking the ball (from Jeff Pill's Drills) 1. striking the ball (sitting) - sit on floor, both feet on floor, knees inside arms, holding ball - lightly kick ball out of hands, straight up, about 2 feet, then catch coaching points: toe pointed, ankle locked, strike w/ "laces" part, ball should top spin or no spin - avoid backspin - repeat, both feet - try 2 consecutive taps 2. striking the ball (standing) - punt ball out of hands, straight up, 6-7 ft in the air, then catch coaching points: as above - next: let ball bounce and then kick again - see how many you can get in a row - next: drop ball (bounce), then strike against wall - low line drive - strike ball on the way down **shinguards, socks and shoes back on! 3. striking the ball (sitting) - as before 4. striking the ball (standing) - as before **Practice these techniques! **Juggling (from footy4kids.co.uk) 1. hold ball out in front, drop to floor, tap ball with foot back up into hands (bounce, foot, catch) - repeat coaching points: don't "strike" ball, think about "catching" ball with foot and tossing up - try both feet 2. bounce, foot, bounce, foot, catch - see how many bounce, foot you can do in a row 3. drop ball and tap (foot, catch) 4. foot, bounce, foot, catch - see how many foot, bounce, foot, bounce, you can do in a row (end with catch) 5. bounce, foot, foot, catch - foot juggling contest - can juggle with thigh and head - practice!!!!! **Shooting on goal relay race 1. players in 2 groups. 1 group races at a time. 2. split group into 2 groups, one 10 yds from goal (passer), one near midfield (shooter). 3. Go - 1 at a time, players from mid line run forward to receive a pass from the other line. Player must 1-touch the ball into goal from 20 yds out, retrieve the ball and go to the end of passer line. passer goes to end of shooter line. 4. only 1 shooter may be shooting at a time. record total goals scored in 2 min. 5. next: add small goal - 1 pt for big goal/2 pts for small goal. coaching points: eye on ball, plant foot next to ball, toe pointed, foot stiff, ankle locked, proper striking surface, head down, follow through **If time remains, 7v6 scrimmage to open goal (or with 1 keeper).
