Jul. 6, 7P, EVHS 5 We will be working on the skills of: speed of play and shooting (and responding to physical play) **Cutting warm-up - 2 grids 10x5, each player with a ball (3 1yd channels) ** > ** ** ^ v ^ ** ** > ** start wide of grid, cut across channel, out other side, then up to next channel, accelerate through channel 1. inside foot dribble, inside cut 2. outside foot dribble, laces cut 3. inside foot dribble, cut behind standing leg 4. outside foot dribble, pull-back cut Coaching points: sharp rt-angle cut, accelerate after cut, keep ball close enough for control but far enough to keep pace **speed of play passing - 8x8 yd grids, 4 players per grid (1 on each side, outside of grid), 1 ball per grid, pass between players, if ball is rcv'd from straight ahead, pass must go to one of the sides. if ball is rcv'd from side, pass must go straight ahead. 1. 2-touch passing 2. 1-touch passing alt: contest - max passes in 1 min. (can keep score or award sprints to low-scoring groups) Coaching points: body prep to rcv, looking and knowing positions of teammates, looking and knowing where next pass is going, pace and weight of pass, moving the ball quickly!, keep possession **speed of play crossing/finishing coach/keeper in goal, cone 6 yds from each corner. 1. Cut back cross and quick shot. 2 lines w/ balls, wide on each side at the 18. 1 line central 30 yds out. Go - wing dribbles to corner cone, quick cross back to top of 18, first time shot. Alternate sides. move to different line. 2. switch, cross, shot. move corner cones to 12 yds out. Go - wing dribbles to corner cone, quick switch to far wing, quick cross back to top of 18, first time shot. Alternate starting sides. Players move to different line. Coaching points: cross out of keeper's reach, vary crosses, shooter knows where keeper is, shooter in path of cross, prepare shooting surface, eyes on ball, block or shoot as appropriate, accuracy/placement over power. **techniques to counter physical play Key points: a. don't be there b. use speed of play c. let the ball do the work d. move quickly to space e. pass ball to space (maybe not to feet depending upon situation) f. don't hold ball too long g. step ahead of opponent so their challenge comes from behind h. "feel pressure" and spin off of opponent players in groups of 4, pairs 10 yds apart, 1 ball per group A,B * * C,D start with light pressure, then increase 1. shielding. C show for pass with D defending from behind. A pass to C, C sheilds for 5 seconds. switch. 2. 1-2 passing. C show for pass with D defending from behind. A pass to C, C returns ball to A. switch. 3. spin. C show for pass, A pass to C.
