Wed. Jul. 15, 5:30P, EVHS grid We will be working on the skills of: finishing from crosses and corner kicks **light shooting warm-up **explanation of positioning X PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP X P S4 S3 P GGGGS2GGG X P G S1 G ________P_X______GGGGGGG____________________ field set up as above. X's are cones at primary crossing points. S's are cones at primary shooting points. P is penalty area, G is goal area. This is a right-side cross. When cross comes from rt side, shooters should be close to positions S1, S2 and S3. The closer the crosser is to the end line, the closer S1 needs to be to goal. If cross is from farther than 18 yds, S1 should be closer to position S4. Shooters must arrive at the same time as the ball, not early and stand there. If they arrive too early they must check out and back, or recycle. Far post needs the most room to correct for deflected or high ball. Same ideas as corner. Same for left side crosses. Coaching points: aim cross away from keeper to shooter, crosser times cross, shooter times run, first time shot, deflect ball to goal, shoot away from keeper, shooter timing - arrive with ball, don't be predictable. **finishing - 1 wide wing line on each side with balls, 3 shooting lines, keeper in goal. Wing dribbles forward and crosses from one of the crossing points. Shooters watch and listen and time runs to complete 1st-time shot. If no shot, 5 seconds to create 2nd shot. alt: CKs; add 1 passive D on shooters; add passive D on wings; active D coaching points: communcation, accuracy/pace of cross, shooter timing run, shooter positioning, shooter adjusting, prep of surface for shot, pace/aim of shot, recycling for 2nd shot. **optional scrimmage
