We've come
to the end of another successful fall season. Players learned in
practices and had fun and performed on the field. Congratulations to
Doris' GU14C1 and Taufiq's BU13C2 on making it to
fall states. Good Luck!
Now that
we've reached the "off season" (is there really an off season?), it
will be time for winter training, coach training and our annual meeting.
See below for information on all of these.
Finally,
this will be my last Coaches Corner newsletter. After 12 years on the
community soccer board and 5 on the Valley United board, I am stepping down
from both programs. You'll be in excellent hands with Jef
Dawson taking over as the new VUSC Director of Coaching.
Good luck
to all of you and I'll probably see you out on the pitch sometime!

1. Winter Coerver training begins Tues. Nov. 1
If the fall
season is over then it must be time for winter training! Coerver training begins on Tues. Nov. 1 at the Irish Dome.
Players train by age-group:
5:30-6:50 B/G U09-U11
6:50-8:10 B/G U12-U14
8:10-9:50 B/G U16-U17
Please make
sure that as many of your players as possible take advantage of the training.
This off-season footskills work has improved
all our teams.
Also, this
is a great coach training opportunity! Coaches should attend to watch how
the pro trainers run the activities. You should repeat these activities and
games as part of your team training next spring and summer. If you have
questions about the session you can chat with the trainers before or after the
session.
2. VUSC season kickoff
meeting Sat. Nov. 12
Mark your
calendar for the annual VUSC season kickoff meeting, on Sat Nov 12 at Scott
Highlands Middle School. Coffee begins at 8:30A. The meeting will
include valuable information for all coaches and team managers. There
will be breakout sessions for managers and coaches, including a field session
for coaches (in the gym). The meeting should end by 12P.
Please be
sure that there is at least one representative from each team though all
coaches and managers should attend.
3. MYSA coach clinic
opportunities
There
currently one E certificate and D license listed on the coach clinic page
at http://www.mnyouthsoccer.org/coaches/courses.cfm.
Both of these courses are in Woodbury at the Bielenberg
Dome and the signup deadline is 10/28. As always, VUSC will reimburse
registration fees for local coaching education upon successful completion of
the class. Please take advantage of these great opportunities.
4. Video of the Month -
Circle Drill
The UEFA Training Ground
has all kinds of great drills, interviews and ideas. This is a great
drill to create/deny space and score goals (or prevent goals).
