- download one of the VUSC Player Evaluation forms at http://www.bjb.org/soccer/coachinfo/:
- “short form”: http://www.bjb.org/soccer/coachinfo/VUSC_PUTTEAMCODEHERE_Player_Eval_2011.xls
- “long form”: http://www.bjb.org/soccer/coachinfo/VUSC_Player_Evaluation_full.xls
- The short form has the
minimum team ranking you need to turn in. The long form also provides a method
to do a full evaluation of each player.
- save a copy of the form for your use:
- select File->Save As
- save as
teamlevel_Player_Eval_year - i.e. BU10M_Player_Eval_2011
- open the file
At a minimum, we need you to rank your players
in order:
- enter the coach(es) name and team name (in the “Ranking”
tab of the long form)
- list the players in ranked order (include the keepers
in this ranking). You can rank the team in thirds (top third=move up or
must keep; middle third=solid contributor; bottom third=move down)
- for each player provide a brief note with any
additional information (no more than a sentence or two.
You can list things like position, or any info that will help the team
selection process.)
- list your keepers in ranked order as well as ranking
them separately
- You may either submit one form for the team or each
coach may submit a form
That is all that is required. Please email the spreadsheet to Barry at
bc@bjb.org. If you would like to use the individual player evaluation tabs
(for your own use or to share with your players), follow the instructions
below:
- in the Form tab, enter the Coach and Team name in the
upper right side
- create a tab for each player: (please do not submit an
entirely separate spreadsheet for each player!)
- at the bottom of the
spreadsheet you can see a "tab" area with the word Form
- right click on the word
Form
- click on Move or Copy
- Click on Form
- click OK.
Do this once for each player on your team so in the end you will have as
many "Form" tabs as players on the team.
- rename the tabs.
- at the bottom of the
spreadsheet you can see a "tab" area with the word Form
- double click on the
word Form
- type in a players name
- hit return.
Repeat this step for each of your player.
- rate the players. Using the 1-4 scale, rate each player
in the areas noted. Sums for each section and an overall sum are
automatically kept.
Rate the player relative to players on the team and players at that same
level you have seen. i.e. if you are rating a U11C2 team, rate your
players against other U11C2 players, not against a higher/lower level or
an ideal player.
At the bottom of the tab you may enter notes. Also, give the player an
overall 1-4 rating and list them as being in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd third of
your team (i.e. if you split your team into top (1), middle (2) and
bottom(3) groups, into which one would this player fall?).
- When this is complete, list the players on the Ranking
tab, from highest to lowest. If any additional notes are needed to explain
the ranking, please enter them on this tab. If you have primary keepers,
you can rank them below.
- Note: The evaluation form does not contain specific
criteria for Keepers. In particular, the Technical section focuses on
field skills. Please evaluate your keepers as you would any other player.
On the Ranking tab, add a section below the full player list to rank all
those players who played the keeper position during the season.
Marc Sutton has contributed two different keeper evaluation forms which
are linked off of the coaches page, if you would like to use them. One is
good in its simplicity, the other gives more explanation of the evaluation
criteria. These forms are provided for your use. They do not need to be
submitted to the club.
Tips. I think it is better to try to rank your team in one sitting if
possible. The first one or two may take some time, but once you are on a roll
you will find this form easy to use. Try not to agonize over your rankings.
While you are free to review and change any of your grades or ranking, your
first or gut reaction is usually right.
